About us

PortTIX was incorporated in February of 1997 to bring together the Portland Performing Arts community by providing professional box office services to the multiple organizations performing at Merrill Auditorium in Portland’s City Hall and other nearby venues, thereby creating a rich database of loyal art loving customers and development opportunities. We have been fortunate to employ many musicians and artists throughout the years. Our profits support our owners: Portland Ovations and Portland Symphony Orchestra, as well as the City of Portland. The relationships we build with our customers and our clients help to promote all that Portland has to offer: shops, restaurants, hotels, fresh air, beautiful architecture, the waterfront, and other fun events and destinations in the area. We love talking about Portland and Maine and feel we are privileged to share this gorgeous state with our fellow Mainers and visitors.

  • Computer proficient
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Enjoys working closely with other staff and supervisors
  • Strong communication skills with customers and colleagues
  • Adaptable to changes in protocols regarding customer safety or other
  • Eagerness to take on office tasks as needed (data entry, administrative support, etc.)
  • Experience with non-profits and/or performance venues

3 Seasonal positions available:

  • 1 Day-Time Ticket Seller | late August 2022 – end of December 2022 | 3-5 shifts/wk | 15-25 hrs/wk | Mon-Fri 10:30am-3:30pm
  • 2 Nights & Weekends Ticket Sellers | late August 2022 – June 2023 | 6-12 hrs/wk (depending on event schedule) | Mon-Fri eves (starting approx. 5:00 PM) and Sat-Sun matinees & evenings. Event shifts are generally 3 hrs/shift.

Duties:

  • Answer questions about ticket prices, dates, content, etc.
  • Assist patrons with seat selection for events using Tessitura ticketing software.
  • Maintain patron records/contact details.
  • Process payments (including credit cards).
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail (day-time only)
  • Assist with merging duplicate records (database hygiene)
  • Additional Tasks as needed, based on box office needs and employee’s skills & interest.

Basic Job Info:

  • Current phone & lobby service hours are Mon-Fri 11:00am-3:00pm.
  • These are part-time, seasonal positions.
  • $15-$17/hr based on skill level and experience

    Pay: $15.00 – $17.00 per hour

    Schedule:

    • Day shift
    • Evening shift
    • Monday to Friday
    • Weekend availability

    COVID-19 considerations:
    Box Office employees follow a mask protocol and are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
    Merrill Auditorium has updated their policy to lift vaccination & masking requirements. Some events will still require these measures.
