PortTIX is Portland’s premier local independent box office based at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.
We sell tickets for both national and local promoters, including our owner
organizations Portland Symphony Orchestra and Portland Ovations. We pride ourselves on
giving customers convenient, secure and personalized service. A wide variety of promoters rely
on us to represent their events with excellent front end service.
We are looking for staff members who can help ensure that our customer service continues to evolve along with the changing needs of our audiences.
-Serve as concierge to VIPs and patrons who need extra assistance.
-Process and track complimentary ticket requests from owner organizations and
-Serve as independent promoter liaison, including sales reports, seat inventory
management, VIP offer management, and as primary point person for questions &
-Serve as Group Sales Coordinator.
-Monitor customer requests via the PortTIX email account, Twitter, and Facebook, and
manage communication to all inquiries.
-Track and resolve suspected scalped ticket orders – manage communication to
identified re-sellers whose orders must be adjusted.
-Connect with local hotel concierges.
-Search out customer service innovations at other venues to support PortTIX in
maintaining best practices for our audiences and promoters.
Supervision & Training
-Provide Support to Assistant Manager for new Ticket Seller training.
-Assist with updating staff training policies and documents.
-Provide support to Ticket Sellers including with policy questions.
-Support ticket sellers in high volume conditions by providing direct customer service via
phone and live chat (tickets sales, event information, and customer questions).
-Support day-to-day management of box office operations and report to PortTIX Director
-Participate in weekly senior staff meetings to help set policies and procedures.
-Serve as Manager on Duty for events in rotation with other senior staff – includes
supervising ticket sellers, assisting patrons, venue staff, and promoting organizations, as
well as managing financials and final audit of events.
-Support System Administrator by verifying accurate event setup via our ticketing system
-Support System Administrator with event setup in high volume circumstances.
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. A proven track record of being able to solve customer issues in the moment is
important. Equally important, we are looking for someone who is able to look at our
current business model and find effective ways to improve overall methods of customer
3. Minimum of 2 years of customer service. Experience with both phone and face-to-face
customer service is important.
4. Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a CRM-based software. Must be proficient in
computer work, including Microsoft Office; Excel, Windows OS, and database centered
5. Minimum 1 year of supervision or management duties.
6. Must have experience collaborating and coordinating with team members. Previous
experience with dealing with a wide variety of organizations with different needs is a big
7. Must like dealing with the public. Our customers are a diverse group of all ages,
backgrounds, and tastes.
8. Must be able to handle a busy and fluid work environment in close quarters with other
staff (who are very friendly, by the way!). The ability to help staff keep a sense of humor
and positive attitude is key.
9. Must have a reasonably flexible schedule that can accommodate some evening and
weekend hours for event management duties.
10. Capacity for effective time management and adaptability. The pace of box office can
change rapidly, as can the focus of our tasks. You will need to work in tandem with the
PortTIX Director to insure we are making the best use of time.
Wages and Benefits
1. Hours: approx. 40 hrs/wk
a. Standard Schedule: Mon-Fri 10:00am-6:00p
b. Hours will shift slightly from week to week according to our event schedule. Up
to 2 event shifts weekly (most shows are in the evening; some Sunday matinees)
2. Rate: $14.50 – $17.50 per hour (depending on skill and experience)
3. PTO (expires June 30, 2020 – end of fiscal year)

Our ideal candidate:
-Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment

-Eagerness to take on office tasks as needed (data entry, administrative support, etc.)
-Experience with non-profits and/or performance venues
2-4 available positions:
-Day-Time Ticket Seller | September – June | approx. 32 hrs/wk; M-F, 11:30-6:00
-Day-Time Ticket Seller | September – December | approx. 22 hrs/wk; M-F, 11:30-4:00
-Positions could be split for the right candidates.
