Grand Opera: Bringing the Ultimate Art Form to Life in Maine for 25 years

What does it take to bring an opera production to life? Artistic Director, Dona D. Vaughn of Opera Maine, now in its 25th year, will share insider knowledge. She will tell you stories from her own experiences, with masters like Uta Hagen and Tennessee Williams, and how they impact her approach to casting and directing her acclaimed productions not only in Maine, but across the globe. Also presenting will be Millie Hiibel, Opera Maine Costume Designer and Judy Gailen, Set Designer for our recent La Boheme and Carmen. Opera Maine singers Mary Johnston Letellier and Jesse Wakeman accompanied by Scott Wheatley will enhance the program.

Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Calien Lewis

This workshop will explore the context, background, and “magic” of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, with musical selections and illustrations in anticipation of Opera Maine’s production in July.

Calien Lewis serves as Opera Maine’s dramaturg and has presented conversations on opera for over 10 years. Having experience in musical performance and theatrical production, she offers various perspectives on the world of opera. She holds degrees in Literature, Theatre and Law.
