Scheherazade

Scheherazade

Scheherazade

Presented by the Portland Symphony

This concert will be conducted by PSO’s new Music Director Eckart Preu!

First we’ll hear a piece by Foumai, which is being especially commissioned for the Portland Symphony Orchestra. You won’t want to miss this one!

That will be followed by Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Scheherazade is a symphonic suite based on Arabian Nights. This orchestral work combines two features typical of Russian music and of Rimsky-Korsakov in particular: dazzling, colorful orchestration and an interest in the East. The name “Scheherazade” refers to the main character Shahrazad of the One Thousand and One Nights (or Arabian Nights). It is considered Rimsky-Korsakov’s most popular work.
