FOKO’s Orgelfest is now Port City Organ Expo!
Here are some the featured Performers who will be coming to Merrill Auditorium.
Join James Kennerley, Portland’s Eleventh Municipal Organist, for his second concert on the mighty Kotzschmar Organ. James is joined by brass and percussion players from the Portland Symphony Orchestra for this special concert, featuring music from the great cathedrals of France, the American silver screen, and even a medieval battleground. The grand finale is a new arrangement of George Gershwin’s classic masterpiece, “An American in Paris.”
Walt Strony is one of America’s premier concert organists. He made his public debut in 1974 at the age of 18 and has since established himself as one of few organists equally at home playing both theater and classical organ. Walt Strony is the only living organist to have been twice voted “Organist of the Year” by the American Theatre Organ Society – in 1991 and 1993. In 2011, he was inducted into the ATOS “Hall of Fame.” His performance in Portland, Maine promises to surprise and delight all who attend.
Chelsea Chen has electrified audiences throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, and Asia. As a composer she is broadening the classical organ repertoire with her own works based on Asian folksongs. Chelsea Chen is known for her diverse repertoire. Her last concert in Portland featured the well-known “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” by J.S. Bach, a selection of her own compositions, the “Super Mario Fantasia” based on music from the popular video game, as well as jazz standards from Duke Ellington, Ben Bernie, and George Gershwin. Her eclectic style is sure to appeal to all audiences, and will perfectly compliment the breadth and range of the Kotzschmar Organ.
If you enjoyed previous FOKO performances or last summer’s orglefest, you won’t want to miss this years events.
