Working at the box office, we’ve found there is something especially nice about walking home from work along Congress Street during the holidays. Even when winter hits in full force you can find surprises that make it worthwhile. There was a night last year when we were walking home and we were a bit tired, cold and wondering why people were crowding in the street. Then we looked up from the sidewalk to the expansive, brightly-lit windows of the Portland Public Library and saw the Portland Ballet’s dancers enacting scenes from The Victorian Nutcracker. Portland is a pretty darn cool town.
You can catch Portland Ballet in action at the First Friday Art Walk, 6:30 pm on December 1, at the Portland Public Library. Yes, it is totally free.
